Wigner Research Centre for Physics was founded in 2012 after re-organising the partner physics research institutes of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Wigner RCP has  about 400 researchers. The message of Wigner RCP is to conduct research on experimental and theoretical particle physics, nuclear physics, general relativity theory and gravitation, fusion plasma physics, space physics, and nuclear materials science, particularly, in the Insitute of Particle and Nuclear Physics; experimental and theoretical solid state physics, statistical physics, atomic physics, optics and materials science, particularly, in the Institute of Solid State Physics and Optics.
