The USTUTT group started a decade ago to work on solid state quantum spintronics and quantum optics as well as metrology and biophotonics. The group comprises 10 PostDocs and 20 PhD students as well as two assistant professors. Major research areas are diamond based quantum technology including magnetic and electric field sensing as well as design and application of photonic and plasmonic nano- and microstructures. Rare earth quantum structures are used for quantum spintronics as well as biophotonics. Among others the work is supported by the ERC Advanced Grant SQUTEC which started in 2011
